Hey, beauty queens! As the weather gets colder, I am reminded of the importance of proper lip care. So today, we are going to talk about--you guessed it--LIPS!

The wrong color lipstick, dry, flaky lips, and heavy and/or overdrawn lip liner, are common makeup mistakes that will ruin your overall look. Many women who are unsure of how to wear lipstick properly will skip it entirely, leaving makeup looking unbalanced and unfinished.

Perfect looking lips are attainable and begin with an ideal lip line. You can have lips that look like a makeup artist did them simply by following a few important steps.

1. Before applying your makeup-and I can't stress this enough- exfoliate your lips and slather them in a moisturizing lip balm or oil. No body wants a crusty lip! Check out these fab sugar lip scrub recipes you can whip up yourself in no time, flat.

2. For extra staying power, when applying your foundation, blend a thin layer over lips to provide a base for lip liner and lipstick.

3. Keeping your mouth ever so slightly open, trace a fine line around the lips with a sharp lip pencil that is within one or two shades of your natural lip color. Start at the v of the top lip and move outward to lip corners by making short strokes (rest your hand on your chin for better control). After you have penciled in the top lip, begin from the middle of the bottom lip and move outward also. Follow the natural lip line.

4. To make lips look larger, follow the outer edge of the natural lip line, making sure not to go over. To make lips look smaller follow the inside of the natural line.

5. Lipstick will stay on longer if the whole lip is filled in with liner before lipstick is applied. If you decide to use this technique, be aware that darker lip liner will darken the look of your lipstick, and if you are going for a light look use a lighter lip liner.

6. Now that lips are filled in, apply your color with your finger or a lip brush (using a lip brush will give you more control). Once lipstick has been applied, with mouth closed, lay a tissue across both lips to blot.

And voila! You are ready to go with perfect lips. Continue with touch ups during the day and don't forget to check for lipstick on your teeth after you apply and reapply. If you are not used to wearing anything on your lips, it will probably take awhile to get used to having your lips done and not constantly “eating” the lipstick.

The plus to having nice lips, aside from the obvious, is that you will never be plagued with dry lips again and over time, they will become softer. And that is not just "lip service." LOL!

No? Yeah, that was bad.

xo,

Emily
